Show hidden devices in windows 7 device manager
The machine is about 1 yr old, and has had plenty of software loaded, but nothing particularly unusual. Method 1: Hadn't thought to check that, just did and nothing applies. Most Lenovo patches involve Windows 8 adding functionality. My prior experience with patches says "don't" unless there's a really good reason.
Nothing about compatibility in the notes. I already tried the driver update for the modem, without any positive results.
Method 3: Hardware troubleshooter was useless. When trying to "send new fax" using the Microsoft applet to test the modem, I get the following error message: "an error occurred. Please try the operation later or contact your administrator".
This occurs with Comm 1 the default setting or Comm 4 the "new" port I patched in. Both Bluetooth radio and wi-fi radio or off.
Since I'm my own administrator, I had no help to offer. The modem shows up under "Devices and Printers" as well as under "Device Manager". It's a puzzlement. I have another Lenovo similar machine, same operating system and the modem works fine, just have to plug it in.
Therefore back to square one, no COM line and no working modem. Oh, FAX is turned on. In reply to Paul Saacke's post on March 8, Hi Paul, Thank upu for the update.
Please provide the information to assist you further. User's post on March 16, Hi Praseetha, I'm more concerned with the modem not working at the moment. It does show up in device manager, it just doesn;t work. I haven't tried it on a different computer.
The driver install window and device manager show a "Prolific" connector assigned to COM 4. Windows 7 does not support Palm Hotsync on a 64 bit machine, which is what I would like to use the product for. I need to play with this some more. As I said earlier in the post, I'm more concerned with the external modem not working.
The serial connector was included in the original description as more of a symptom than anything else. Thanks for responding. In reply to Paul Saacke's post on March 16, In reply to zakirulhuq's post on October 10, Hi zakir. Can you help us improve?
Resolved my issue. Clear instructions. Easy to follow. No jargon. Pictures helped. Didn't match my screen. Incorrect instructions. Too technical. Not enough information. Not enough pictures. However, Unidesk has observed this patch to break the VMXNet3 driver when included in an OS layer update, so we do not currently recommend it. If you apply this patch in an OS layer version, you may wind up with desktops with a non-functional VMXNet3 device, and uninstalling it from the device manager does not actually remove it.
The following instructions apply to Windows 7 and Just run DevMgmt and Show Hidden Devices, and you will automatically see the grayed-out nonpresent devices too. For Windows 7, close any open instances of the Device Manager. Open an Administrator Command Prompt and type the following:. This brings up the device manager with the flag enabled that allows you to see non-present or ghost devices. In the device manager:.
Windows should now re-discover the VMXNet3 device and install it properly. Failed to load featured products content, Please try again. Customers who viewed this article also viewed.
